The HALO Trust Innovation Blog

Technology has always been central to what we do but today it's transforming our work faster than ever. From AI-powered drones that identify explosives from the air to robots that cut through tripwires and micro-excavators that safely uncover mines in under a minute, innovation is making demining faster, safer, and more effective for our 8,000+ staff worldwide.

We are the world's largest humanitarian landmine clearance organisation. Founded in Afghanistan in 1988, The HALO Trust works in more than 30 countries to clear landmines and explosive remnants of war, protecting lives and restoring livelihoods in communities that have been torn apart by conflict.

Here, we share what we're building, testing and learning from. You'll find field reports from places like Ukraine and Angola, deep dives into our R&D partnerships, honest reflections on what works (and what doesn't), and thinking on how technology can serve the humanitarian sector responsibly.

We're not a typical tech team – our innovations are deployed in active minefields, and that reality shapes how we work and what we write about.

If you want to understand the mission behind the technology, learn more about our work worldwide.
